to ask you the question,

You will be surprised at these two reasons.

most comfortable using,

There are two reasons why the hiring manager is going to say to you,

what are your salary expectations.

Reason number one is

because they want to hire someone who fits in with their budget.

The hiring manager will already know the salary they are prepared to pay for

the right candidate.

Very soon, I will tell you how you can find out what the hiring

manager is prepared to pay.

And reason number two why they will ask you at this question is

because they want to find out

if you know your worth.

Anyone can say in a job interview, I want a salary of $70,000,

but you will never get

that amount unless you explain why you are worth

that salary.

That is why there are three things you must say in your answer to

get the salary you deserve.

Let me tell you what they are.

Write these down.

Number one, make sure you tell the hiring manager

that you have researched the salary range for your job role

and industry.

This tells them you know what the going rate is for someone in the

position.

Their budget will fall within that salary range.

You can find out the salary range for any role

and industry on the website glassdoor.com

or by asking ChatGPT.

Number two, tell the hiring manager what your desired salary is.

My advice is to ask for a salary slightly below the higher end of

the salary range.

For example, if the range is between $55,000 and $64,000,

I would ask for $63,000.

And number three, tell the hiring manager why you are worth your desired salary.

This is very important.

You can mention any of these four things to prove your worth.

Number one, previous strong work performance that impacted your employer positively.

You could say this, in my previous role,

I worked on a team that secured a lucrative sales contract for our employer.

Number two, ideas you put forward in previous roles that resulted in revenue growth.

You could say this, in my last role,

I suggested upsell opportunities that increased the average sales transaction by 18%.

Number three, examples of going above and beyond to help your employer.

You could say this, in my last role,

I stayed behind late after work when needed to support business operations,

and I always volunteered to help train new coworkers.

And number four, unique or in-demand skills, certifications,

or experience that make you valuable and stand out from the other candidates.

You could say this,

I bring technical certifications and expertise that will help the business increase market share.

Okay, let me now give you the first of my three recommended answers to

the question,

what are your salary expectations?

What are your salary expectations?

I spent time researching the salary range for this job role

and industry before applying,

so I do have a good idea of my worth based on my knowledge

and expertise.

The salary range is between $49,000 and $57,000.

I would be comfortable with a salary of $56,000

and a chance to have it reviewed annually based on my contribution to the

company's success.

I believe I am worth $56,000 because of my track record of success,

which I will replicate in this role.

For example, in my last position, I won employee of the month,

and I suggested customer upsell opportunities that helped to increase sales by 17%.

You could see how effective my answer was.

I was confident, I knew my worth,

and I justified the salary I was requesting.

Let's now move on to the second method for answering what are your salary

expectations.

The second method involves not asking for a specific salary until you are offered

the job.

This is a psychological trick

that tells the hiring manager you are value-focused

as opposed to money-focused.

This is a smart method to consider using,

and it is perfect for those candidates who do not feel comfortable asking for

a specific salary.

Here is the answer in a real interview.

Richard, what are your salary expectations?

At this stage, I prefer to not focus too much on salary.

My priority is to make sure this role is the right fit for my

skills and that I can add real value to your team.

If we both feel I'm a strong match

and you would like to move forward,

I'd be very happy to discuss salary in line with your budget,

the responsibilities of the role, and the value I can bring.

That was a smart way to demonstrate to any employer

that you are totally focused on finding the right job

and employer who will value your skills.

Let's now move on to answer option number three.

The third option is to put the onus onto the hiring manager to disclose

the salary range they have set for the position.

Again, this tells them

that your focus is on adding value first

as opposed to having a set salary amount you would be prepared to work

for.
