Rule number one is eye contact.

Whenever you communicate with anyone in any situation,

make sure you hold direct eye contact.

When you maintain eye contact,

it tells the person you are confident in your communication skills

and it tells them they have your full attention.

However, if you struggle to maintain direct eye contact,

you have the following three options.

Number one is to look anywhere across the bridge of their nose.

Number two is to look directly in between the eyebrows.

And number three, you have the option of looking anywhere across their forehead.

If you use any of these three options,

it still shows the person you are maintaining good eye contact.

Rule number two is to make sure you learn the power of the pause.

What do I mean?

When someone asks you a question at work

or before you speak in any workplace conversation

or meeting,

I recommend you pause for a second.

There are three benefits to using a pause before you speak.

Here they are.

Number one, you sound more confident and in control.

Number two, you give better responses or answers in any conversation.

And number three, you increase impact and presence.

When you pause, it makes your words feel more important and deliberate.

For example, if someone says to you at work,

"How would you tackle this project?"

do this.

I would tackle this project in the following three ways.

You can see how effective the pause is when used during conversations.

Rule number three for communicating confidently

and professionally is to make sure you avoid filler words.

These are your worst enemy.

Have you ever noticed when communicating with some people,

they will use annoying filler words such as um, like, basically, you know.

Do not use any of these filler words.

Instead, make sure you pause before you speak.

Rule number four is to make sure you communicate in numbers.

This is a brilliant way to develop strong communication skills.

Have you noticed that I always use numbers when communicating in my YouTube lessons?

For example, I might say, "In this lesson, I will teach you three things.

Tip number one, there are five rules to communicating like a professional."

When you use numbers during conversations, it demonstrates good structured communication,

but it also creates intrigue, anticipation,

and the person you are speaking to can absorb your information more easily.

Here are some more examples of how you can use numbers in everyday workplace

conversations.

"I've got two suggestions that could make an immediate impact on the project.

Hold a quick daily progress meeting and assign tasks to team members' strengths.

There's one key thing we need to focus on during the project,

ensuring we give the company a strong return on its investment."

And you can use this example when resolving a customer complaint.

"There are three ways we can resolve this for you.

I can arrange a full refund, offer a replacement immediately,

or provide a discount on your next purchase."

Make sure you use numbers to communicate confidently and professionally.

Rule number five for communicating confidently and professionally is often overlooked.

However, if you utilize this technique, it will improve your communication skills significantly.

Make sure you listen more than you speak.

There is a saying that goes like this,

"The smartest person in the room is the one who speaks last."

When you listen, it empowers you to gather vital information

that makes your contribution to the conversation more impactful.
