At the start of your job interview, you will have to answer the question,

"Tell me about yourself."

In this quick lesson, I will teach you how to give the perfect answer.

Remember this, learning how to pass job interviews is a life skill you must

develop.

I have helped literally thousands of candidates just like you pass their interviews at

the first attempt,

and I am very passionate about helping people get hired.

To begin with, what is the purpose of the interview question,

"Tell me about yourself?"

The question is designed to assess the following two things.

Number one, your communication skills, because if you cannot talk confidently about yourself,

you will struggle to talk about the company's products and services to customers or,

more importantly, communicate clearly with your co-workers and managers.

So, the interviewer wants to assess very early on in the interview your communication

skills.

The question is also designed to assess, number two, your suitability for the role.

Again, the hiring manager wants to assess early in the interview whether you can

actually do the job properly.

And they will assess your suitability for the role against what is called the

job description.

Every job that is advertised comes with a job description.

I strongly recommend you quickly read the job description before your interview

because it will tell you the skills the hiring manager is looking for from

the ideal candidate.

Let me now give you three very important tips for answering "Tell me about

yourself" with confidence.

I will then give you several top-scoring example answers.

Tip number one.

Make sure you prepare your answer to the question "Tell me about yourself" before

the interview.

Don't forget.

This is the first question you will have to answer

when you will likely be the most nervous.

I recommend you sit down

and write down your scripted answer to this question

and practice it several times before your interview.

I recommend you sit down in front of a friend

or a relative or even in front of a mirror

and practice giving your answer.

This will help you give a confident response to the question "Tell me about

yourself" right at the start of your interview.

Don't forget you are being assessed against your communication skills

and your suitability for the job role.

Tip number two.

This is an important tip.

Keep your answer to approximately 60 seconds. 60 seconds is sufficient for you to

talk about yourself and your suitability for the job role.

It does not need to be any longer than 60 seconds.

And tip number three.

This is very important.

I strongly recommend you use a structure to answer "Tell me about yourself."

Using a structure demonstrates to the interviewer you have excellent communication skills,

and it also makes it easy for you to remember your answer.

Which structure should you use?

The best structure is called the seat structure, S E A T.

I will tell you what those four things stand for in a second,

and you can easily remember my brilliant seat structure for "Tell me about yourself"

because you will be sitting down on a seat at your job interview.

So, when you attend the interview,

whether it's an online interview or an in-person interview,

you go to the interview, you sit down on the chair, remember seat.

You are sitting down on a seat,

and you will use this structure when answering "Tell me about yourself."

What does seat stand for?

S stands for the skills you have that match the job description.

Don't forget to quickly read the job description before your interview.

E stands for the experience you can bring to the job role,

or if this is your first-ever job interview, your educational background.

A stands for the achievements you have attained in your life so far.

These can either be work-related achievements or achievements from your personal life.

Talking about your achievements tells the hiring manager you have a track record of

success.

And finally, T stands for the type of person you are

and what you will do in the role to add value to the company.

The seat structure tells the hiring manager you have good communication skills.

In the next section of this lesson,

I am going to give you three best answers for the question,

"Tell me about yourself."

These are unique answers that are guaranteed to impress any hiring manager.

The first answer uses my seat structure.

The second answer is a conversational style answer.

And number three is suitable for those candidates who have no experience or freshers.
