2:02 All right, are you ready to get ready with me?
2:05 We're going to go over to my bathroom sink,
2:09 rewind a few hours to the morning,
2:12 and I'm going to get ready after waking up in the morning.
2:16 Let's go.
2:18 Oh, hello and good morning.
2:21 I never thought I would be on the internet like this.
2:24 This is my hair that I woke up with.
2:26 This is my face.
2:27 No makeup.
2:29 And I'm going to tell you about what I do to get ready.
2:32 We're going to film this in the mirror.
2:34 So, I hope that it works.
2:36 Hi.
2:38 And I'm going to get started with um putting in my contacts.
2:43 So, I wear glasses usually, but lately I've been wearing contacts more,
2:50 and that's just how it goes.
2:51 So, I have this little contact case, and inside are my contacts.
2:56 Now, there's two different types of contacts.
2:59 There are monthly contacts and daily contacts.
3:03 Going to rinse my hands.
3:06 I wear monthly contacts because I wear them pretty frequently.
3:11 And uh Dan, my husband,
3:13 wears daily contacts because he only wears them once a month maybe.
3:18 They kind of irritate his eyes.
3:20 So I have the contact here on my finger
3:22 and I just put it in my eye.
3:26 Now when I first started wearing contacts, I think I was in 8th grade,
3:33 it was not as smooth as that.
3:35 I remember trying again
3:36 and again and again to get the contacts in my eye.
3:39 And there's something very weird about putting something in your eye and not blinking.
3:46 Like your instant reaction, your instinct is to to blink,
3:50 but you have to keep your eye open, put it in ah smooth.
3:56 So sometimes some of the contact solution drips down my face
4:01 and I want to just dry it off a little bit
4:05 because I'm going to put some makeup on.
4:07 I don't wear much makeup.
4:09 I'm not very makeup savvy, but we're going to do it together anyway.
4:15 And I hope that you'll learn some important daily life vocabulary.
4:19 So, this is like my little makeup bag.
4:23 I have a couple things in here that you're about to see.
4:25 The first thing that I do is this is I don't know,
4:29 a BB cream.
4:30 It's just like a very light concealer.
4:33 And I only wear that under my eyes.
4:36 Um, partially because I am perpetually tired
4:40 and it's also genetic to have darker skin
4:44 or thinner skin,
4:46 we could say thinner skin under here which makes it look darker.
4:50 So, I like to wear just a little bit of this under my eyes.
4:54 I don't I don't know
4:54 if it really makes an awful lot of a difference,
4:57 but I do it for me.
5:01 Um, I know if you are somebody who wears a little bit of makeup,
5:05 you probably have noticed on days when you don't wear makeup, people say, "Oh,
5:09 you look so tired.
5:10 Are you okay?"
5:11 And then you think, "Uh, it's just my face."
5:15 It's not because I'm actually more tired than usual.
5:19 You're just not covering up your tired in the same way,
5:22 which is how I feel.
5:23 So, I put this under my eyes,
5:25 kind of under on my nose a bit, and on my eyelids.
5:30 This is like a little sponge.
5:32 I like using it.
5:33 I think it's pretty common to use something like this.
5:37 And it just makes that thin skin a little bit more bright.
5:46 Um, okay.
5:47 Next thing is I have another sponge.
5:51 And this is like a little powder.
5:53 It's supposed to be like a a clear, how can I say it?
5:57 A clear powder. and it just makes it
5:59 so that the cream doesn't wash off basically.
6:06 Um, so it's white and it's pure white,
6:08 but it's not going to look white.
6:11 Um, if you have darker skin,
6:12 something like that probably will not look
6:15 as good and you might want a tinted powder,
6:19 but I think it's called setting powder.
6:26 Um, because it sets the cream.
6:29 And I put a little bit here, too.
6:31 Boop.
6:31 Boop.
6:33 Nothing too much.
6:34 Well, maybe you think it's a lot, but I don't know.
6:38 If you ever watch makeup videos,
6:39 people wear so some people wear so much makeup.
6:42 I generally do not.
6:44 And this takes just a few minutes.
6:47 Um, sometimes in daily life,
6:51 I might put a little bit of powder on my cheeks, too.
6:55 You can't see it, but it just kind of blends a little bit.
6:58 I have no idea if it actually works, but um you can't see it,
7:04 but especially if I'm filming a video,
7:06 I don't want certain part of my skin to be like shiny
7:10 and some to be not shiny.
7:13 Okay, so that's that.
7:16 The next step is very fun.
7:18 Do you know what this is?
7:20 It looks like a torture device.
7:22 Uh this is an eyelash curler.
7:24 And this is something I personally really enjoy.
7:28 Now, I don't know if this works.
7:31 I don't know if this uh is just in my head,
7:34 but usually I try to heat it up a little bit before I put
7:37 it on my eyelashes.
7:38 And I think it helps more than when I don't do this.
7:41 So, I just go like this and it kind of heats it up.
7:46 And then I put it on my eyelashes
7:49 and it curls them up a bit
7:53 so that all of this is just a ploy to look more awake than
7:57 I really am.
7:59 Um, I did do this when I was younger, like in my early 20s,
8:05 and I was not tired, but nowadays I am often tired.
8:13 And just as you get older, you know, you want to look more awake.
8:17 Um, I think doing something with your eyes can make a difference.
8:21 So, you see my eyelashes, I don't know if you can tell,
8:23 are slightly more curled up.
8:27 Next is one of the final steps.
8:30 This is a very long process, as you can tell.
8:34 I'm being sarcastic.
8:35 Uh, next I'm going to put some mascara on.
8:37 This is like extremely cheap mascara.
8:40 I don't know.
8:40 I've tried other kinds
8:41 that are fancier and for some reason this is what I always go back
8:45 to.
8:46 Um maybe it's because I'm not picky.
8:49 So this is called the wand, the mascara wand.
8:54 And inside there is mascara.
8:57 And I'm going to just go like this.
8:58 And I blink blink blink blink.
9:02 And I find when I do that,
9:04 it kind of more evenly goes on my eyelashes instead of being clumpy.
9:11 That's not what you want.
9:13 And because I already curled my eyelashes a bit, it goes on very smoothly.
9:22 All right, this died.
9:23 Boop boop boop boop.
9:26 Very simple.
9:28 I have gotten this in my eye a few times
9:31 and that is no fun.
9:35 A couple days ago, my 2-year-old daughter was in the other room.
9:43 I was in the kitchen and I thought, "Oh,
9:45 she's just petting the cat or reading a book."
9:48 And I came in the room.
9:49 Do you know what I saw?
9:50 She had this all over her face.
9:55 So, I put a baby lock on the drawer where I keep my makeup
10:01 bag.
10:02 Okay.
10:02 So, on a on a normal day, that's all I would do.
10:07 But sometimes when I'm filming a video like today,
10:11 I will put a little bit of eyeliner on.
10:14 This is like a liquid eyeliner.
10:16 No idea if it's the best or great or whatever,
10:19 but it works for me.
10:20 And I'll put that like this. a very thin line.
10:30 Basically, the point is that it's almost imperceptible.
10:35 Imperceptible.
10:36 Imperceivable.
10:38 You basically can't tell that it's there.
10:40 And it looks somewhat natural.
10:44 That's the goal.
10:52 Okay. just a bit.
10:54 And the final step, well, the final step for my face.
10:59 When I'm recording a video, I often will wear some type of lipstick,
11:04 but in normal daily life, I do not wear lipstick.
11:07 But today, I'm filming a video, so I'll put this lipstick on.
11:12 It's just like a tinted tinted crayon type thing.
11:23 And most importantly, sometimes I go like this to make sure it doesn't get
11:29 on my teeth because I have recorded videos,
11:31 maybe you have seen this, recorded lessons where there's some lipstick on my teeth.
11:37 Sometimes I have to re-record the video
11:40 and sometimes I just leave it
11:41 because that's the way it is.
11:43 Okay, so my face is ready.
11:45 Occasionally, I want to show you.
11:47 Occasionally, I will, especially in the summer,
11:50 put like sunscreen on my face before I put makeup on,
11:55 and that's just to protect my face throughout the day.
11:58 Um, I also have this deodorant that I wear on my armpits,
12:03 and I already put that on.
12:06 And now it's time for my hair.
12:08 Now, I have my hair right now, you can see, in two braids.
12:12 Um, these are called French braids.
12:14 I don't know if they're actually French.
12:17 Um, but these are French braids.
12:19 I wear this all the time.
12:22 This is the second day.
12:23 So, I had these in my hair yesterday and they were less scraggly.
12:28 This is called maybe scraggly.
12:31 All these little these are called flyaways.
12:34 Little hairs are coming out.
12:36 It's not the most clean look.
12:37 Usually in my daily life, I don't really care.
12:40 But when I record a video,
12:41 this is the perfect way to do my hair, I think.
12:44 Very easy.
12:46 So, I take these out.
12:47 These are called hair ties.
12:49 Some people call these hair elastics.
12:53 I use gigantic ones.
12:55 My hair is very thick.
12:57 And these are one solid circle,
12:59 so they don't have a seam which can break.
13:02 It's just one piece.
13:04 And watch this.
13:06 I just take the braids out and within minutes, maybe within moments, uh,
13:17 my hair is finished.
13:19 So, this will leave my hair wavy.
13:22 My hair is not naturally curly.
13:24 It's not naturally stick straight.
13:27 That's what we say if your hair is very straight.
13:29 My hair is naturally wavy, but when I put it in braids like this,
13:34 it brings out the waves in my hair.
13:39 Um, and it's the way I enjoy wearing my hair.
13:43 So, I will use my comb.
13:44 I do not usually use a brush.
13:48 This is a brush.
13:50 Usually, I don't use a brush.
13:51 I just use this comb.
13:53 Do you want to know something about this comb?
13:55 I got this comb from a dollar store in South Korea 13 years ago
14:04 and I still use it.
14:07 So when people say you need to buy some fancy comb for your hair,
14:11 maybe if you want your hair to look better than this you should,
14:14 but this is what I use.
14:16 Um, usually when I take my hair out of the braids,
14:20 I might leave it like this
14:21 or I might gently do a little bit of combing to make it a
14:29 little more smooth possibly.
14:31 Um, so I'll do that a little bit here underneath as well.
14:37 And usually I toss my head upside down like this.
14:42 Shake it out a little bit.
14:44 And voila, I am ready to record a video.
14:47 Oh, wait.
14:47 One more thing.
14:50 Uh, I'm going to put in my earrings.
14:52 I wear earrings every day.
14:53 I don't know why.
14:54 It just feels like I'm doing something special.
14:57 Even if I just wear my normal shirts, normal pants, nothing fancy,
15:03 at least I have earrings.
15:05 Um, so I'm going to put in my earrings.
15:09 I have two earring holes, but I never used the second one.
15:14 It might even be closed at this point.
15:16 I don't know.
15:18 Um, I got that when I was a lot younger.
15:22 Um, but these are dangly earrings
15:25 and I some I I usually wear dangly earrings.
15:28 I have a couple stud earrings.
15:31 That means they're just right here on your ear.
15:34 Maybe it's a little stone or something right here.
15:37 But usually I have dangly earrings because I like it.
15:41 And that's about it.
15:42 After this, I will go make some tea, eat some breakfast,
15:48 or make a lesson for you.
15:50 And I in my daily life, I would wear a shirt like this,
15:53 just normal, not very exciting shirt.
15:58 Uh, this is a cozy shirt that I like to wear in the winter.
16:01 But if I'm recording a lesson for you,
16:02 I would probably change my shirt and wear something a little more professional.
16:07 And that's what I'm going to do.
16:08 I'm going to change my shirt
16:09 and I'll meet you back in the studio room for our final part of
16:15 today's lesson.
16:16 Well, thank you for getting ready with me this morning.
16:19 Now you see how this magic happens.
16:22 It's not very magical.
16:24 It's just something that a lot of people do every single day in the
16:28 morning.
16:28 We all get ready to some extent.
16:31 Now, if I were to show you my husband Dan's morning routine,
16:35 it would be walk into the bathroom, look in the mirror,
16:39 go like this with his hair, and then walk out.
16:42 I always laugh because it's so simple and so stereotypical, right?
16:47 But I want to know for you.
16:48 Let me know in the comments,
16:50 what's something that you do to get ready in the morning?
16:53 And don't forget to download today's free PDF worksheet
16:56 that includes the bonus audio version of today's lesson.
17:00 You can download that audio and listen to it wherever you are,
17:04 maybe while you're getting ready in the morning.
17:06 So, just click the link in the description, enter your name and email address,
17:10 and voila, just like that, the PDF worksheet will land in your email inbox.
17:15 This is my gift to you.
17:17 Well, thank you so much for learning English with me
17:20 and I'll see you again next Friday for a new lesson here on my
17:23 YouTube channel.
17:24 Bye.
17:25 But wait, do you want more?
17:27 I recommend watching this video next where you will go into my bedroom
17:31 and see how I make the bed
17:33 and change the sheets.
17:35 This is another thing
17:36 that everyone does around the world
17:38 as long as you sleep in a bed.
17:40 And I want you to have the vocabulary you need to talk about this
17:43 daily life task.
17:45 I'll see you there.
