From A1 (beginner) to C2 (proficiency) — practice shadowing at the level that fits you.
The CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is the international standard for describing language ability across listening, reading, speaking and writing. It splits proficiency into six levels, from A1 (absolute beginner) to C2 (mastery), grouped into three bands.
### A — Basic user
- A1 — Beginner: familiar everyday phrases; introduce yourself; simple questions.
- A2 — Elementary: common expressions about shopping, family, work and local areas.
### B — Independent user
- B1 — Intermediate: main points of clear standard speech; handle travel; simple connected text.
- B2 — Upper-intermediate: complex and abstract topics; converse fluently with native speakers.
### C — Proficient user
- C1 — Advanced: demanding long texts; implicit meaning; fluent, spontaneous expression.
- C2 — Mastery: understand virtually everything; summarise and argue coherently.
