0:07 but actually yesterday I was watching Mandalorian and Grogu, the new Star Wars movie,
0:12 and the reason I was late is because I was watching Star Wars.
0:16 And late to this rehearsal actually.
0:18 So, you know how much of an importance I give to Star Wars.
0:22 And one thing that Star Wars inspired to me since a very young age
0:26 is that I want to go out to space.
0:29 I want to build rockets and go to space,
0:31 which is why I want to become an aerospace engineer.
0:35 But then, I had the question and also wondered,
0:38 what do other people like why do they want to become aerospace engineer?
0:42 So, I went to LinkedIn and found a bunch of data.
0:44 And the first reason is because they're good at math.
0:46 And rocket science requires a lot of math.
0:50 Another reason is because they love space.
0:52 Just like me.
0:52 They want to build rockets to space.
0:54 Pretty simple.
0:56 Another reason is because they love the money.
0:58 And this is a pretty high-paying job.
0:59 So, you can't blame a guy for feeding his family.
1:03 Especially in this economy.
1:05 Another reason is because they want to build weapons of mass destruction for the
1:09 US government.
1:10 I'm not going to go more into details for that.
1:11 I don't want to get kicked out of the stage.
1:14 But also, another reason, which I found common to everyone,
1:18 is because they get to call themselves rocket scientists.
1:21 That's pretty rad.
1:24 So, then I asked the question,
1:26 why does the US government invest in space technologies?
1:30 The first reason I came up I found was the military-industrial complex.
1:33 And that's pretty self-explanatory on what I just mentioned earlier.
1:37 The next one is
1:38 because there's a bunch of rich people who just want to go to space
1:41 for tourism.
1:43 Another reason is because many people believe
1:46 that it is human nature
1:48 and human divine right to explore.
1:51 Whether, you know, in the 17 or 1800s, people found America.
1:54 They want us to do the same thing and go out to space.
1:58 Another reason because it's just cool and I agree with that.
2:01 You also can't, you know, deny that either.
2:04 But also another very small percentage
2:05 that I found is
2:06 because of scientific research
2:08 and advancement for humanity.
2:12 Then we look at this.
2:14 Remember this data, right?
2:16 We're going to come back to this.
2:18 So then I ask the question, how do you create modern space exploration?
2:21 I came to a conclusion and found an equation.
2:25 Basically, the modern space industry is the empire from Star Wars plus a rich
2:30 billionaire who wants to drive an electric car to Mars.
2:34 And that is equal to modern space exploration.
2:37 So why do we actually explore space?
2:39 Why should we continue?
2:41 Why should we actually do this?
2:43 You know, Democrats and Republicans on both side might argue this is a waste
2:46 of government taxpayer dollar,
2:48 but I don't think so.
2:49 Because when I look at this data, I want to shift it.
2:52 I want to flip the graph
2:53 and make the sole reason for scientific research
2:56 and for advancement of humanity.
2:59 Which is why in the past 2 years,
3:02 I talked to people
3:02 and found problems like we have to fix problems on Earth,
3:05 right?
3:06 Like if we're going to space,
3:07 we have to fix the problems on Earth first.
3:09 So I ask you, the audience,
3:10 what do you think are the big issue in the world right now?
3:12 Give me one.
3:13 Someone shout yell out.
3:14 Yes.
3:16 >> Inflation.
3:17 >> That's great.
3:17 Inflation is a big problem.
3:18 Does anyone know of any other problem?
3:22 >> Water.
3:22 >> Water.
3:22 That's a great example, right?
3:25 So here is Here's my conclusion
3:27 and I found that there are three main problems in the world right now.
3:29 Number one is the health crisis.
3:32 You know, this is a big problem.
3:33 Actually, 44% of Americans actually has to stop paying for your their average like
3:39 bills,
3:39 groceries, and things like that because they have to save money for medical bills.
3:44 That's very sad.
3:45 Another reason, climate change.
3:48 You know, we see couple weeks ago just last week,
3:51 we see the weather changing.
3:53 We see new events happening that doesn't that should not happen at this time.
3:56 The fire right here close to us should not be happening at this time.
4:00 The climate is changing really rapidly
4:02 and it is a big problem in the world.
4:04 This one is the new one,
4:05 but artificial intelligence is also a new rising problem.
4:09 You know, did you know that seven out of 10 Americans in the world,
4:13 I mean in America, doesn't want an AI data centers in their backyard.
4:18 And there's more reasons to that and I'll go into that.
4:20 But I look at these problems and I I asked like I love space.
4:24 Should should we still continue to go to space?
4:27 So, I got inspired
4:28 and and I started 2 years ago I started emailing a bunch of professors,
4:32 CEOs, founders, and people who work in the space industry.
4:34 And I just asked them the question, "How does your technology solve these issues?"
4:39 And reality, I found out that it actually matters.
4:44 Going to space matters.
4:45 It's not just it's no longer a place where like rich millionaires go out
4:49 there to for tourism.
4:50 It's no longer a place where government just build weapons in there.
4:53 It's actually some It's a place actually a place where
4:56 if we build technologies there,
4:58 it will help us.
4:59 It will help Earth.
5:00 Which is why I started this organization called Eco Aero.
5:03 And throughout these 2 years, I continued talking to people, more people,
5:07 and asked them the question the same question,
5:08 "How are you helping solve these world issues?"
5:11 And I found out that the space technology is actually beneficial.
5:15 Let's start with the first problem, right?
5:17 Health crisis.
5:19 Here's the thing with with the health crisis right now.
5:21 The main problem is that we have new diseases coming out every single day.
5:25 It's accelerating and it's growing at at an exponential speed.
5:29 But the rate at which we are creating cures, finding solutions,
5:32 is not as fast as those.
5:34 Take COVID-19, right?
5:36 Took around 2 years to actually get everyone with the vaccine.
5:39 It took more than
5:40 that to actually get at everyone
5:42 and make it like a common flu.
5:44 Took a very long time.
5:46 We have cancer.
5:46 There's many other diseases and health problems that are growing right now.
5:49 On average, I searched up
5:50 that took around 10 to 15 years to roll out a new cure for
5:54 each disease.
5:55 But I found out that space is actually beneficial.
5:59 I talked to the CEO of this company called Deep Space Biology
6:03 and he discovered that on the International Space Station,
6:07 you can test new disease as at a faster rate.
6:10 What does that mean?
6:11 That means that, for example,
6:12 aging problem or immune problems grow on earth takes around 10 years for an
6:17 average person depending on you know,
6:18 age and person, things like that.
6:20 But in space, it takes a couple years or even less than a year,
6:24 in a couple of months.
6:26 But that sounds like counterintuitive.
6:28 Like why are we trying to get someone on earth to have more problem
6:31 in space at a faster rate?
6:33 But in reality, scientists can use that to create cure at a faster rate.
6:37 Instead of you know,
6:38 just testing on a human and having to wait out a human to,
6:42 you know, for me to actually face the problem,
6:44 you can do the same thing in less than a year in space.
6:48 Another thing, cancer.
6:51 A big problem in the world right now
6:52 and we haven't exactly found a cure to it.
6:54 But in a lab on earth, cancer cells grow flat because of gravity.
6:59 But in in our body, in our human body,
7:01 cancer cells grow in 3D shape because of fluids and everything like that.
7:06 But so when we actually test cancer cell in a lab,
7:08 you can't get it in the shape of 3D.
7:11 But in space, you can because there's no gravity in space.
7:14 So scientists and researchers on the International Space Stations are actively testing cancer cells
7:19 in space in a lab environment to see cancer cells 3D,
7:22 grow 3D so that they can actually see how it reacts in the human
7:26 body.
7:27 That's new advancement.
7:29 We can't do that on in space on earth.
7:31 That's just impossible.
7:33 The last one I talked to um I talked to the CEO of this
7:35 company called Aspecs and he's building this product called a climate box.
7:41 And what a climate box is is you can like 3D print um organs.
7:46 You can also test like medicines and other solutions in space.
7:51 And what that does is first, 3D printing.
7:54 As I've mentioned, in space there's no gravity.
7:57 So, you can actually 3D print organ tissues for human bodies on Earth in
8:01 space.
8:02 That's pretty cool.
8:03 But, another reason is because space is a controlled environment.
8:07 What is a controlled environment?
8:08 There no There are no other particles in space,
8:11 which means there's no risk of contamination
8:13 if we if we test it in space.
8:16 Another reason is because space is cold.
8:18 And this is really important because in a lab,
8:20 when you go to like a hospital lab, a university lab, it's very cold.
8:23 They have to test it in a controlled environment.
8:25 But, when you do it in space, space is already cold.
8:28 You don't need to do it in a lab.
8:29 You can just do it in this climate box that this guy built.
8:33 So, that's the main thing that space can help with, the health crisis.
8:36 Developing medicines and helping develop technologies
8:40 or solutions that might take 5 uh 10 to 15 years on Earth,
8:44 but instead 5 years in space.
8:46 Let's go into another problem, right?
8:48 Climate change.
8:50 What is the main problem with climate change right now?
8:52 We are basically using too many resources than what we have,
8:57 than what we can produce.
8:58 And that's not necessarily a bad thing.
9:01 Why?
9:02 Because our TV requires energy, your phone requires energy, my watch requires energy.
9:07 That's good.
9:08 That means we are developing
9:09 so many new technologies
9:11 that we're using so many resources.
9:13 But, the problem with that is that we don't have enough resources.
9:16 So, people, you know,
9:17 nowadays they come up with solutions
9:19 and they say we have to stop using cars.
9:21 We have to use less plastic bags.
9:22 But, that is not the solution.
9:24 We're fixing the effect.
9:25 We have to go back to the cause.
9:27 We have to see why do we not have enough um resources, right?
9:32 So, we have to be produce more resources.
9:35 Right now, we have wind energy, we have hydro energy, we have solar energy,
9:40 but they're all limited.
9:41 Take solar, right?
9:42 On Earth, we have bad weather, we have night time.
9:46 So, a guy came up with an idea, and I talked to this guy.
9:50 He basically said, "Why don't we put solar panels in space?
9:54 There's unlimited energy.
9:55 The sun is always shining.
9:56 It doesn't go out, right?
9:57 And you know, there's no cloud in space,
10:00 so why don't we just put solar panels in space?"
10:02 And they actually discovered that that's possible.
10:05 I talked to another Caltech professor,
10:06 and then they researched
10:07 and tested and tested
10:09 and found out that you can actually do
10:10 that.
10:11 That means solar energy anywhere, any time, and beam down back to Earth.
10:17 That's pretty cool.
10:18 We can have energy for everyone on Earth at any time.
10:22 No lim- We're not limited by clouds.
10:24 We're not limited by night time.
10:27 Another thing, there's this company called Interlune, another company called AstroForge,
10:32 and they're thinking about taking resources from space.
10:36 Take the moon.
10:37 There's this element called helium 3,
10:39 and what helium 3 can be used for is for fusion energy, basically nuclear.
10:44 And nuclear is a very, very clean energy.
10:46 If people didn't know that, you know, there's a lot of propaganda against nuclear,
10:48 but nuclear is very clean, very sustainable.
10:51 But, the problem on Earth is
10:53 that we don't have enough resources for
10:54 that to build it right now safely.
10:56 So, Interlune is building technologies to go to the moon and get those resources.
11:01 We're no longer damaging the environment on Earth.
11:04 Take hydro.
11:05 We have a dam.
11:06 It's safe.
11:06 Yes, but it is destroys the biodiversity of the animals down on Earth.
11:13 So, we have to go out to space to get these energy.
11:17 We have to go out to space to develop
11:20 and take the resources
11:21 that we don't have on Earth
11:22 so we can leave live sustainably.
11:24 The solution is not to stop using a phone.
11:27 The solution is to provide enough energy so everyone on Earth can use phone.
11:32 And that is why space can fix this problem.
11:36 Now, the last problem that we have on Earth is AI.
11:39 And right right now,
11:39 what the problem with AI is basically
11:44 that data centers are being built around the United States.
11:47 And it's taking people's water because it requires cooling.
11:50 It takes energy, and it's going to drive up the energy cost.
11:54 Also, why your gas is probably expensive right now.
11:56 And also, it takes up space.
11:59 So, how do we fix that?
12:01 This company called Aether Flux
12:04 and Star Cloud are building AI data centers in space.
12:08 And what they're doing is, like I said earlier,
12:11 there's unlimited solar energy in space.
12:13 So, if we just put the data centers up there,
12:15 you don't have to take the energy
12:17 that we are using for us for ourselves.
12:20 The energy price won't go up.
12:22 It won't take need water, either, because space is cold,
12:25 and I said that earlier.
12:26 Space is cold, so you do not need cooling.
12:29 And lastly, it wouldn't take up space.
12:32 Right now, a lot of space is being used.
12:34 We need more houses.
12:35 We have a housing crisis.
12:36 So, if we're building AI data centers, why are we stealing people's house away?
12:40 We need to put put it somewhere else.
12:43 Another problem with AI comes is there's not enough access on Earth.
12:48 Internet access.
12:49 We all have the privilege of having our phones.
12:52 We all have the privilege of being able to download ChatGPT, download Cloud,
12:56 even though I disagree with it, but you have that privilege.
13:00 You have the privilege to do that.
13:03 Many people in the world do not.
13:06 So, we need internet access for everyone.
13:08 It's not even just for AI, but just for basic internet search, for education,
13:11 for the digital economy.
13:13 You need to be able to search things, and that is how we advance.
13:17 So, companies like Starlink, companies like Leo are building this thing called constellations.
13:22 They're basically tiny satellites in a group.
13:25 They just launch it in low Earth orbit.
13:27 And what that does, it gives everyone internet connectivity.
13:31 Everyone on earth, no matter where you live.
13:34 There's no more cell signal being blocked by buildings
13:36 or mountains because it's up in space,
13:38 just like how we use GPS.
13:40 So that is how space can be a solution to this problem.
13:47 Now, you probably ask, why am I telling you this?
13:50 You know, Judah made a great speech about democracy
13:52 and because it matters to you.
13:54 It matters to young voters.
13:55 But space also matters.
13:57 Because whenever I look at this photo,
13:59 it was taken around 70 years ago by the Apollo 8 astronaut.
14:04 And the quote that goes with it is
14:06 that we set out to the moon,
14:08 but instead we found uh It's called Earth's Earthrise.
14:13 Because when we go out to space, we found ourself.
14:16 We find ourself.
14:17 We find Earth.
14:18 We find our home, our only home.
14:21 Therefore, we have to save it.
14:23 But we can save it by going out there.
