10 DANGEROUS THINGS TO SAY IN A JOB INTERVIEW! (Interview Mistakes to AVOID!)

Let's get started with the first of those 10 things you must never say

in your interview.

Write these down.

At the very start of your job interview,

the hiring manager is going to say to you either tell me about yourself

or introduce yourself.

Whatever you do, do not say this.

>> Introduce yourself.

>> Well, everything you need to know about me is on my resume

which you have in front of you.

What else would you like to know?

That tells the interviewer you are slightly irritated by their first question.

Here's exactly what to say when answering introduce yourself and how to say it.

Write this down.

>> Welcome to the interview, Richard.

Please introduce yourself.

>> Thank you very much for giving me this opportunity.

I am a disciplined, responsive, proactive,

and collaborative team player with the skills

and qualities needed to excel in this position.

My experience working on teams, delivering excellent customer service,

and problem-solving means I can come into the role

and have an immediate impact.

I have a track record of achievement.

In my last position,

I won employee of the month

and was praised by my manager for my strong work ethic.

If you hire me,

I will be a great company role model

and take ownership of my professional development to ensure you always receive a great

return on my salary.

So, that gets the interview off to a positive start.

The second thing you must never ever say in your job interview is

when answering the question,

"Why do you want to leave your current job?"

Don't say this.

>> Why do you want to leave your current job?

>> To be honest, I want to leave my current job

because there's a toxic work environment

and I don't really get on with one of my coworkers.

If you are negative like that in your job interview,

the hiring manager will think it's you who has the problem

and they won't give you the position.

Instead, when answering this difficult question, say this.

>> Okay, great.

Why do you want to leave your current job?

>> I want to leave my current job simply

because I have reached my full potential in my role.

My employer has been great to work for,

but I am now seeking the next chapter of my career with a forward-thinking

and innovative employer like you,

where my skills and qualities can be put to good use.

One of the most common

but hardest questions to answer in a job interview is,

"Where do you see yourself in 5 years?"

Do not make the mistake of saying this.

>> Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

>> To be honest, in 5 years time,

I have the goal of working for a larger company such as Amazon.

However, if I am successful during my time here,

I will always do a great job for you.

That was the wrong way to answer that difficult question.

Remember this.

It takes lots of time, effort,

and resources to find the right candidate for a job role.

So, if you say you don't plan to be working there in 5 years

time,

you probably won't get hired.

Here's the best answer you can give in your job interview.

Write this down.

>> Next question.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

>> I plan to build a long-term career at your company.

Therefore, in 5 years time,

I would like to have completed lots of training courses to diversify

and develop my skills,

be the go-to expert in my area of specialism,

and also be someone the company could use to help train new team members.

The next question often catches candidates out.

That question is, "What do you know about our company?"

Please, whatever you do, don't say this if you want to get the job.

>> Tell me, what do you know about our company?

>> To be honest, I've not had much time to research your company.

What do you actually do around here?

The easiest way to stand out in your job interview is to make sure

you research the company before your interview.

Go on to their website about us page.

Find out what they do, the products and services they sell,

the positive online reviews they receive from customers,

and also follow them on social media.

That will make it far easier for you to answer this difficult question.

Here's exactly what to say and how to say it.

>> What do you know about our company?

>> I spent time researching your company before applying for the position to ensure

this is a place I wanted to work long-term.

I researched your company values.

They are positive and align with mine.

I also looked into some of your products and services,

and your fantastic customer reviews tell me

that you are innovative

and you have very high standards.

Finally, the people I spoke to who already work here have said great things

about the senior management team

and how you support your employees

so they can reach their full potential.

The next thing you should never say in your job interview is

when answering this difficult question.

>> Why do you want this job?

>> To be honest, I want this job

because it's close to where I live

and the pay is quite good.

I am sure you will agree that was a terrible answer.

When answering the question, why do you want this job,

I recommend you say there's two reasons why you want it.

Here they are in my brilliant example answer.

>> Okay, Richard.

Why do you want this job?

>> I want this job for two reasons.

Number one, I'm very passionate about this role and industry.

We spend approximately 25% of our lives at work

and I want that time to be spent in a job

that I love for a company where I can see the positive impact my

contribution is having.

The second reason I want this job is because it is with your company.

My research tells me

that your company values align with mine

and I will be supported to reach my full potential.

Now, the next tough interview question is one where the majority of people fail

their interviews on.

Whatever you do, do not say this.

>> What's your biggest weakness?

>> My biggest weakness is I am a perfectionist.

The question, what is your biggest weakness, is assessing two things: honesty,

because we all have weaknesses, and self-awareness.

Because if you are aware of your biggest weakness,

you can then take steps to improve.

But there are certain weaknesses you should never give.

Saying you don't have any, saying you are a perfectionist,

and also saying you work too hard.

Don't say any of those weaknesses,

but there is one safe weakness you can give

that will do you no harm in your interview.

Here it is.

>> Okay, next question.

What's your biggest weakness?

>> My biggest weakness is that I struggle to say no to people,

which means I sometimes over commit.

I have this weakness

because I am a people pleaser

and I don't want to let anyone down.

However, I have been learning to assess my capacity for additional responsibilities before saying

yes to ensure that high-quality work standards are always maintained.

The next question that catches a lot of candidates out is how do you

handle stress and pressure?

I've heard lots of candidates answer this question in this way.

Don't make the same mistake.

>> How do you handle stress and pressure?

>> How do I handle stress and pressure?

Oh, that's a tough question.

To be honest, I think I just handle it by getting on with my

job.

When answering this question,

you must tell the hiring manager you know exactly what to do to handle

challenging situations.

Here's the perfect answer.

>> Okay, now tell me, how do you handle stress and pressure?

>> I handle stress and pressure by remaining calm, professional, organized,

and focused on the task at hand.

I always remember that stress is a physical emotion that I can control.

I block out distractions and work hard until I have completed my objectives.

The next question is called a behavioral interview question.

Tell me about a time when you worked on a team.

Whatever you do, don't say this.

>> Tell me about a time you worked on a team.

>> To be honest, I've never been in that situation before.

However, I do believe I am a good team worker.

If you answer any behavioral interview question like

that by saying you've never been in the situation before,

you will not get offered the job.

Either give a specific situation where you worked on a team

or if you have no previous teamwork experience,

say this.

>> Tell me about the time you worked on a team.

>> Even though I've not worked as part of a team yet,

I do know what makes a good team worker.

To work as part of a team,

I would always listen to our manager's brief,

find out what I could do to contribute to the team's goals

and support my co-workers.

Throughout the team task, I would communicate effectively,

motivate my team workers

and ensured we did all

that we could to achieve the team's objectives.

The next question I want to teach you how to answer is what is

your greatest achievement.

Whatever you do, do not say this.

If you do say this, you won't get hired.

>> What is your greatest achievement?

>> To be honest, I don't really have any achievements of significance yet,

but I am a hard worker.

Now, that question is assessing previous strong work performance,

whether you have achieved something of significance in your life.

If you have, it tells the hiring manager you have a track record of

achievement,

which you will likely replicate in the role for their company.

Here's a brilliant answer.

Say this and you will probably get hired.

>> Richard, what is your greatest achievement?

>> My greatest achievement was in my last position

when I worked on a team

that successfully launched a new company product.

We got together as a team to brainstorm marketing ideas.

I suggested we launch the product on social media by targeting our ideal customers

and others on the team recommended we use affiliates to promote the product

and also offer our loyal customers a discount.

By working together as a team,

we managed to launch the product successfully

and we achieved a 17% increase on the company's previous best ever product launch.

Here is the 10th thing you should never say in a job interview.

Do you have any questions?

Thank you.

Yes, I have just one question, please.

I have a holiday coming up soon.

If I'm successful, can I have time off for it?

That was a terrible question.

If you say that again, you probably won't get offered the job.

I recommend you ask the interviewer the following three smart questions.

Write these down.

>> That's the end of your interview.

Do you have any questions?

>> Thank you very much.

be a part of in this role

learn more about your company
