One of the hardest questions to answer in any job interview is what are
0:06
your strengths and weaknesses.
0:08
Answer this question wrong and you won't get the job.
0:12
If you want to pass your interview at the first attempt, stay tuned.
0:16
And just very quickly,
0:18
tell me the name of the job you are applying for in the comments
0:22
section below the video
0:24
so I can give you some extra help.
0:26
Let's get started.
0:28
To help you answer the question, "What are your strengths and weaknesses?"
0:32
with confidence, I will teach you three things in this lesson.
0:36
Number one, I will reveal the two reasons why the hiring manager will ask
0:42
you this tough question.
0:44
If you know why the question is being asked,
0:47
you can give a great answer.
0:50
Number two, I will
0:51
then go over to my teaching board
0:54
and reveal the seven best strengths
0:58
and five safest weaknesses for all job roles.
1:02
And then finally, number three, I will give you two brilliant,
1:06
top-scoring answers to the question, "What are your strengths and weaknesses?"
1:11
in a real job interview,
1:12
and also give you the scripted answers
1:15
so you can write them down
1:16
and practice.
1:18
To begin with, let me reveal the two reasons why the hiring manager is
1:23
going to ask you this difficult question.
1:26
Take notes.
1:27
Reason number one is
1:29
because they want to establish in the interview whether your strengths match the job
1:35
role and the job description.
1:38
If they do, your chances of getting hired will increase significantly.
1:44
Make sure you read the job description before your interview
1:48
so you know the strengths they are looking for from the ideal candidate.
1:53
And reason number two why they will ask you the question,
1:56
"What are your strengths and weaknesses?"
1:59
is because they want to assess honesty and self-awareness.
2:04
Do not say you don't have any weaknesses.
2:07
We all have weaknesses and knowing what they are is a strength.
2:12
Also, do not say your biggest weakness is that you are a perfectionist.
2:18
I recommend you give a safe weakness
2:20
and also tell the hiring manager what you are doing
2:24
or have been doing to improve.
2:26
In the next section of this lesson,
2:29
I will go over to the training board
2:31
and tell you what the best strengths
2:34
and safest weaknesses are for all job interviews.
2:38
Here we go.
2:39
Best strength number one for job interviews is a brilliant one.
2:43
Please write this down.
2:45
That is to say to the hiring manager that you are highly disciplined.
2:51
You can be relied upon to complete all of your work on time
2:54
and to the required standard.
2:56
Strength number two is to tell the hiring manager
3:01
that you are highly responsive in your work.
3:06
You tend to complete more work than the average person.
3:10
Strength number three is to say that you are results driven.
3:20
You always set yourself goals to achieve
3:23
that align with the company's goals
3:25
and objectives.
3:27
The next strength is to say that you are a responsible problem solver.
3:36
You are the type of person who takes ownership of problems whenever they occur
3:41
to achieve a successful outcome.
3:44
Strength number five is my preferred strength for job interviews.
3:50
Please write this down.
3:52
That is to tell the hiring manager that you are commercially aware.
4:00
This is a brilliant strength.
4:02
If you are commercially aware,
4:04
it means you understand in basic terms how a business operates.
4:08
They are paying you a salary
4:10
and you have a duty to give them a brilliant return.
4:13
Strength number six is to tell the hiring manager you are a collaborator.
4:23
Another brilliant strength.
4:25
The majority of candidates tell the hiring manager they are a really good team
4:29
player,
4:30
but the word collaborator puts you on the same level as the hiring manager.
4:36
If you are a collaborator,
4:37
you work closely with your coworkers
4:40
and other departments to help the company achieve success.
4:44
Strength number seven is to tell the hiring manager you are adaptable.
4:54
This means you respond well to change
4:57
and you are also flexible
4:59
and adaptable in your job description,
5:02
which will give the company a higher return on your salary.
5:06
That is now the seven best strengths to use in a job interview complete.
5:11
Let me now tell you what the five safest weaknesses are for all job
5:16
interviews.
5:17
The first one is struggling to say no to people.
5:23
This means you sometimes overcommit.
5:26
Tell the hiring manager your biggest weakness is you struggle to say no to
5:31
people,
5:31
which means you tend to take on too many responsibilities.
5:35
However, you are learning to assess your capacity for additional work before saying yes
5:41
to ensure high work standards are always maintained.
5:44
That is safe weakness number one.
5:47
Safe weakness number two is delegating.
5:54
You can tell the hiring manager your biggest weakness is you struggle to delegate
5:59
tasks to other people
6:01
because you prefer to do things yourself.
6:03
However, you understand that failing to delegate properly is not conducive to effective teamwork.
6:11
Safest weakness number three is a really good one.
6:16
And that is public speaking.
6:23
You can say to the hiring manager,
6:25
"My biggest weakness is I don't yet have much experience of giving talks to
6:30
large groups of people.
6:32
However, this is a skill I would like to develop.
6:35
So if there are any opportunities in this role for me to give talks
6:39
or presentations to my team,
6:42
I would like to try."
6:43
Safest weakness number four is finding it difficult to let go of projects.
6:52
You can tell the hiring manager,
6:54
"Your biggest weakness is you struggle to let go of projects.
6:57
You keep checking them over
6:59
because you want them to be done to a very high standard.
7:02
However, you are learning to complete tasks and projects,
7:06
let them go so you can quickly move on to the next one."
7:10
And safest weakness number five is actually my biggest weakness.
7:16
Can you guess what it is?
7:17
Let me tell you, this is such a powerful weakness for all job interviews.
7:24
And that is impatience.
7:28
I am a very impatient person.
7:31
I get lots of work completed.
7:33
However, I have to understand
7:35
that not everyone works at the same pace
7:38
as I do.
7:39
However, I am learning to improve my persuasion
7:44
and negotiation skills to help other people improve their work output.
7:50
Now that we know the best strengths and safest weaknesses for job interviews,
7:55
let me give you my sample answers in a real interview plus give you
8:00
the scripts to write down.
8:02
Please tell me in the comments section below the video which answer,
8:06
one or two, you think is the strongest.
8:09
Here we go.
8:10
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
8:13
My greatest strengths include commercial awareness, adaptability, and problem-solving.
8:20
My commercial awareness means I understand that you are running a business,
8:25
paying me a salary,
8:26
and I have a responsibility to give you a strong return.
8:31
My adaptability means that I respond well to change
8:35
and I am flexible in my job description to support the team.
8:40
My problem-solving capabilities mean
8:42
that I always take ownership of difficult problems
8:46
as opposed to leaving them for others to deal with.
8:49
My biggest weakness is public speaking.
8:52
I don't yet have much experience giving talks
8:56
or presentations to large groups of people.
8:59
However, if there is any opportunity in this role for me to give talks
9:04
to my team,
9:05
I would like to try.
9:07
I am sure you will agree that was a fantastic answer.
9:12
Here is the exact script for you to write down.
9:16

9:20

I would like to try.
10:19
Tell me, Richard, what are your strengths and weaknesses?

10:27
I am highly disciplined
10:29
and can be relied upon to complete all my work to the expected standard.
10:35

10:36
I only have to be told to do something once
10:39
and it will be done on time
10:41
and without constant supervision.
10:44
Finally, perhaps my greatest strength is that I am results-driven.
10:49

10:55

10:59

However, I have been improving by first assessing my capacity for additional responsibilities before

saying yes to ensure high-quality work standards are always maintained.
