0:03 Thank you.
0:06 >> Yes.
0:06 Will they let us talk or no?
0:20 >> So folks um I'm a film critic.
0:23 U my job is to look at films not so much at box office.
0:27 But this man doesn't give me a choice.
0:29 Right.
0:30 What a year you've had.
0:31 What a year.
0:33 Um 1,250 crores box office for KGF2 global gross sales.
0:44 Okay.
0:44 Guys guys 54 crores only the Hindi version opening
0:49 which is a record in Bollywood
0:50 that has not been broken.
0:54 >> Yes.
0:55 You know you Yeah, I'm I'm going to need some crowd control from you.
1:06 >> Sorry, >> you're going to have to help with the crowd control. you
1:19 and that film have been instrumental in bringing audiences back to the theaters this
1:25 year.
1:26 Uh why do you think Rocky connected so strongly just across the world?
1:35 >> See uh generally what happens is uh in a previous interview also I
1:41 think we discussed about this.
1:43 So the issues what uh masses have or they need some kind of inspiration.
1:50 They need uh somebody to motivate them.
1:53 So that may uh not come from books
1:56 or uh from they may not attend some you know personality development course.
2:01 Cinema is one such medium.
2:02 I know it's about action, gangster, all of that,
2:06 but deep down that's about one common manu who's got a lot of difficulties
2:12 and nothing is uh easy
2:14 or ideal situation for him.
2:16 But he surpasses all the difficulties in style with conviction
2:20 and he goes and he achieves it.
2:23 That is something which everybody today wants to uh do
2:26 or connect because we need to give them confidence. uh most of the people
2:32 they are like crushed in the beginning you know the way society tells you
2:35 that this is how
2:37 if it comes to
2:38 if I have to speak about my industry this is how our star should
2:42 be this is how we should look this is what uh these are the
2:46 type of clothes he should have
2:47 so there is some set rules where society is unknowingly pushing it on youngsters
2:53 or today's generation so they're confused including me I was confused
2:58 so the moment The moment you realize it's all within you
3:02 and if you decide nothing can stop you
3:04 and everything will change you can change doesn't happen on its own you have
3:09 to take actions so
3:11 if they realize that
3:13 then they will definitely get inspired Rocky did
3:17 that to them and I think there is Rocky in everybody is what I
3:20 feel >> you know um one of my favorite scenes in the film is
3:28 is early on uh you get down from the helicopter,
3:32 you put yourself at the head of the table where all the other bad
3:35 guys have gathered,
3:37 right?
3:37 And then you drop that killer line about nepotism, which I just loved.
3:46 And then you say, "I've got here on merit."
3:49 Right?
3:50 Rocky is saying, "I've got here on merit."
3:52 And a little later in that scene,
3:54 you say that you can't create another Rocky to kill me
3:57 because there's one and only peace right now
4:02 that that Yash is also you,
4:06 right?
4:06 You are here on merit.
4:08 >> You are a single piece.
4:10 I want to talk to you about this conviction.
4:13 Okay?
4:13 Because you you go back to it in your conversation a lot.
4:17 What does conviction mean on a day-to-day basis?
4:20 How do you have like what what do you do on a day-to-day basis?
4:24 You wake up and do what to have that belief.
4:29 >> I think um to answer your first portion
4:32 when we put that nepotism
4:34 that was not u there was no such development in the industry
4:39 that was shot much before lockdown
4:41 and all of that.
4:43 So the idea was it's a burning issue.
4:45 So it doesn't mean
4:47 that people who have come from film background
4:50 or film family.
4:51 It's not against them.
4:52 Nepotism according to me is not about um somebody some actor's son
4:58 or some producer's son coming into industry.
5:00 It's not about that.
5:01 It's about them trying to put others down acting
5:05 as if they are blueblad
5:07 or they are royalty.
5:09 That is wrong.
5:11 So that's there in most of the fields.
5:13 It's not just cinema
5:14 but cinema it's visible
5:15 and people talk about it criticize
5:17 and it's like little uh vulnerable industry
5:21 if not everywhere that is there
5:23 but if as a country
5:25 or as a society
5:26 if we have to evolve
5:28 or go to next level we should encourage talent we should encourage merit
5:35 so the idea was even in gangsters even in underworld
5:39 if you are talking about nepotism I
5:43 that was a confusion
5:44 when I just you know we were discussing I said this is the best
5:48 time to tell him nepotism here also
5:52 so everybody's like that isn't it too high a word will people understand I
5:57 don't know then that became like a big thing everywhere everybody started discussing
6:03 so then most of the people understood uh
6:05 but the point is not to put anybody down from the industry it's to
6:09 inspire any individual for me I from the beginning all I had is confidence
6:16 and vision and when I look at people who are trying to intimidate you
6:20 with power or with uh just the background
6:25 if you do it good we respect you
6:28 but at the same time
6:29 because somebody has done it in your family
6:32 or that we give you love we respect you
6:35 when you mutually respect everybody that's fine in any industry
6:39 but don't use it
6:40 as a weapon to intimate ate others.
6:42 So somebody like me,
6:43 I think it's most of the people's issue
6:45 and they they have it in them.
6:47 Somebody like me if I represent
6:49 then that's when the city comes
6:55 and on a daily basis I think all of us go through
6:59 that.
7:00 I'm not somebody who's like 24 bar 7 confident
7:03 or I'm not somebody
7:04 but most of the time I am >> really
7:10 because because I don't uh I don't think about what to lose
7:15 or it's about you you be yourself
7:19 and whole world will sense it
7:21 if you try to act
7:22 if you try to pretend
7:23 or if you try to imprint someone that's
7:25 when you lose respect
7:26 if you be yourself
7:28 and if you don't care about uh not with arrogance uh
7:33 if you don't care about uh you know what others are thinking about you
7:37 judging you then everybody will like you
7:39 if you're real and
7:40 if you have that conf
7:41 and I think it's a constant process I get inspired by looking at a
7:44 lot of other fellow actors
7:47 or competition is something
7:50 which I feel it is very important in the industry I always been telling
7:53 about it it's not just about one indivision
7:56 so I always tell KGF was not to intimidate.
8:00 It is the vision of KJF was to inspire
8:04 that I wanted everybody to believe
8:06 that uh anybody can go out
8:08 and achieve.
8:08 It's not like we are not inferior or it's not like an impossible task.
8:13 I always believe everybody comes to this world uh as a baby.
8:17 I've never seen or come across any story where somebody's know come with all
8:22 might and power.
8:24 So they all develop it.
8:25 So if they can even we can uh that's that's about it.
8:29 You keep motivating yourself.
8:31 Keep set a goal.
8:33 That's what I believe.
8:33 You set a goal
8:35 and then take actions what it requires
8:38 and what kind of people you have to associate
8:40 and then just keep going.
8:42 Don't care about rest of the things.
8:44 Success and failure is like it's not trust me
8:46 when I say this even after this success it's not uh success
8:51 which gives us happiness.
8:53 It's about the journey.
8:55 When you see that
8:56 when nobody else is even thinking of it
8:59 or if they can't imagine
9:00 but you are seeing it absolutely with such clarity
9:04 that it's as if it's there waiting for you.
9:06 That's the fun part.
9:07 So set a high goal.
9:09 Set a goal which
9:13 which should look like there's a saying no
9:17 if you tell your goal people should be scared.
9:21 If not it is not a goal.
9:23 No buying a house, having a buying a car or uh settling down,
9:28 having a good family is not a goal.
9:30 That's basic.
9:31 We will end up set high goals.
9:34 Then I think individually everybody can
9:37 if everybody starts thinking like
9:38 that many things can happen for this country
9:41 because we just talk about our country was great back
9:44 then,
9:45 our civilization was like that.
9:47 So I can go on
9:48 and on about this topic
9:50 because I love because
9:51 that changed my life.
9:53 Belief system changed my life.
9:55 >> You know what intrigues me Yash is
9:58 that after this massive blockbuster you didn't give 30 interviews.
10:05 Okay.
10:05 You didn't post uh creatives talking about box office here opening there.
10:12 You in fact didn't give any interviews. you you just went quiet
10:17 which is a very unique way to approach stardom.
10:22 Why have you chosen this?
10:25 >> I think um that's how an actor should be
10:29 or a star should be
10:30 because they all are the channel for the dream word.
10:37 I'm like the bridge they need to pass through us
10:40 when they see some actors
10:42 or some uh stories they listen to stories through those characters through us they
10:47 travel if it is too much about me
10:50 and if they know everything about me I don't know where uh they will
10:54 be able to relate to those characters
10:56 so for me I think it's my job one second
11:00 and I don't believe in going out
11:02 and talking about you know this is saying no
11:06 if you're a king.
11:08 If you're telling you're a king, then you're not a king.
11:11 So, anybody who has success,
11:16 anybody who has success or doing really great in life,
11:21 I don't think they have to go out
11:22 and show that they're successful
11:24 or doing it.
11:25 People will know it.
11:25 I I I know my audience or my fans,
11:29 all of them are really smart.
11:31 We are trying to cope up
11:32 because they consume lot of content.
11:34 and they understand the world better.
11:36 So if I think I am smart and I'm trying to project something,
11:39 they will read it.
11:40 Okay, this guy is doing this
11:42 because he wants to show he's bigger than
11:44 that actor or this actor.
11:46 So you better you better be real
11:50 and they will sense it
11:51 and they will tell the whole world.
11:53 I think it's nice when it comes from people.
11:56 >> How fabulous.
11:57 Speaking of conquering, uh, what is the next big world domination plan?
12:12 Remember I told you once I told you audience will tell me what to
12:16 do next.
12:18 >> You asked me what do you mean by audience or people will tell you.
12:22 See if you listen to them, you will know.
12:30 Hollywood.
12:32 >> Hollywood, >> they're thinking Hollywood.
12:32 >> No, when when when I say it's not about Hollywood,
12:36 it's about trying to achieve things
12:39 which always looked uh like only they can do
12:44 or again same same thing.
12:46 It's not that as a country also we have
12:48 so many such inhibitions. you know we you know what the best CG company
12:53 in the world or the one of the best who are doing good is
12:57 an Indian uh I met him Namit
13:00 so he's got so many Oscars
13:02 so happy to see our people going
13:03 and achieving those things
13:05 and establishing and like
13:06 that there are so many people there also who are uh working there
13:11 and they have understood
13:12 that market all of
13:13 that but now it's time to see what we can do
13:16 as an industry I think most of the people are looking towards
13:20 that and uh as we have India on our side we can take
13:24 that challenge because the kind of budgets we can put
13:28 or the kind of support audience are giving
13:31 and some people even say it's not about budget it's about content yes true
13:36 but there are certain things to achieve certain kind of film you need
13:39 that budget or you need
13:41 that so we can take
13:42 that kind of responsibility we'll try
13:45 and there are so many people who might do
13:47 that in our country
13:48 but I think we all should take inspiration from each other
13:51 and keep trying.
13:52 That's it.
13:53 >> But Yash, give us little more now.
13:55 When will you announce?
14:00 >> No, I I'm not saying my next film will be Hollywood or that.
14:04 You just ask me what's next.
14:06 For me, my vision is let me go towards it.
14:09 Let me work towards content.
14:11 Let me work with people who are hungry and passionate.
14:15 I don't want to work with people who are looking at my box office
14:18 number and come and tell me
14:20 that okay we'll do this film
14:21 so we can no I want to work with people who say uh you
14:26 know you have done this you you you can do this
14:30 or can we try something else here
14:31 or let us do this uh something you know very exciting
14:36 that is where I'm looking at I think working on couple of things
14:39 but the fact is I I've met couple of people their vision is good
14:44 they have come come up with good scripts
14:45 or I've also spent time with a couple of people working on scripts
14:50 but somewhere I think all of it uh starts with are we aligned is
14:55 the vision same because
14:56 as an individual story
14:58 that might be good may not work for what I want to achieve now
15:02 or where I want to go
15:03 and there are certain talented directors who I just worked with
15:06 but I don't think their exposure
15:09 or what they are thinking right now is not the same thing
15:12 so we're just aligning
15:13 and I think I have been looking for it.
15:16 I don't want to talk much because um there is nothing left after that.
15:21 Uh I anybody won't be excited
15:23 if I come out
15:24 and tell because they will have an idea.
15:25 But I'm working.
15:27 I'm not taking this success for granted. 24 7 from morning to night.
15:34 I just think of cinema.
15:37 I just think of uh our people.
15:39 I always believed whenever they have given me success,
15:43 it is not because what I have done,
15:45 it is because of what they see in me,
15:48 what they want me to do.
15:50 So, so I know what they are expecting out of me.
15:55 At least I'll try doing it.
15:57 That's all I can say.
15:58 It's something very uh nice which I will enjoy.
16:01 I don't know how they will feel it, but it's good.
16:04 It's uh things are going well.
16:06 But it will take time.
16:06 In my head, there is no time for me. time is irrelevant
16:10 as far as I'm waking up early in the morning,
16:12 hitting the gym, doing all my actor duties plus 24/7 uh you know I'm
16:19 brainstorming of doing uh giving a better product giving a good film for them.
16:26 How can things go wrong?
16:28 I don't uh you know I'm not doing things
16:31 which is irrelevant to my industry.
16:32 I'm just trying to do what it takes to make a good film.
16:35 So it should fall in place.
16:37 It will looks like it is falling in place.
16:39 That's all I can say.
16:42 >> Lovely.
16:42 We hope soon.
16:45 >> Soon.
16:46 >> Very soon.
16:46 See, I I I No, no, no, no.
16:53 The problem is I I know all of you are expecting on Janet that's
17:00 my birthday.
17:03 I I really want to
17:06 but if it is halfbaked I don't think I will come out
17:10 because for me it is not about me it is not about my birthday
17:14 nothing it's about the product it's about the project
17:17 when it is right right time I will come out
17:20 and tell please I I want you people to understand
17:24 that I'm not irresponsible I'm not having fun with the success I'm really trying
17:29 to get things Right.
17:32 >> That's all I can say.
17:36 >> Lovely.
